How it started
After more than a decade of working with advanced robotic and prosthetic applications in the USA, Jack Schorsch had become frustrated by the size and efficiency of the actuators available. Even the best custom actuators could not match the power-to-volume ratio of the human body, and the limiting factor was always the gearbox. Jack’s frustration led to one of his finest eureka moments, when he invented the Archimedes Drive. The technology became the subject of several entrepreneurship courses. Potential applications were identified, its market potential was evaluated and the founding team was formed during this period. In June 2016, IMSystems was officially born and was incubated at the high-tech incubator YES!Delft.
Our mission
The speed reducer is one of the most critical components for every robot, but a lack of breakthrough innovations in this field has hampered robot development for over 50 years. Even nowadays, industrial robots are still heavy, bulky, expensive and not as precise as they need to be. At IMSystems, we want to eliminate these kind of restrictions, which have been a major impediment to mass-market deployment of robots. By replacing geared transmissions with the Archimedes Drive, we can enable the type of industrial and consumer robots that we can only dream of today. Our goal is therefore nothing less than to cause a revolution in the robotics industry.
