THE ROLE
As the HSE Officer at Damen Naval, you will develop, implement, and maintain our Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and systems. You will foster a health and safety culture by promoting initiatives that ensure a safe work environment for our staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and visitors. You will oversee, advise, and report on all HSE-related issues. Given that Dutch is commonly spoken within Damen Naval, fluency in Dutch is required.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
Coordinate HSE activities and promote a health and safety mindset.
Liaise with external parties on HSE matters and ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
Develop and manage HSE plans and systems, including policies and procedures.
Lead and support HSE audits and risk assessments, implementing mitigation measures.
Provide HSE advice to management, ensuring legal and contractual compliance.
Oversee continuous improvement programs and manage registers for health, environmental aspects, and hazardous substances.
Investigate incidents, maintain records, and report to stakeholders.
Deliver staff training and briefings on best practices and legislative changes.
Mentor and coach HSE Assistants.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing and strengthening HSE systems and managing stakeholders.
Experience in coordinating and directing HSE projects and providing HSE training.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical field.
Extensive knowledge of HSE management, principles, and systems.
Preferably holds a Diploma ‘Hogere Veiligheidskunde’ (HVK).
Proficiency in Dutch and English, both written and spoken.
Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.
- Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
