Functieomschrijving
Are you interested in international climate policy and how to strengthen capacity in different countries around the world? Then come and join our team at PBL!
As part of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement, parties are required to formulate plans to reduce emissions. These plans are often based on projections of future emissions and assessments of the impact of policies. Countries outline their potential contributions through so-called Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The RECONNECT project helps selected countries to achieve this by fostering cooperation regarding NDC development, analytical support and capacity building regarding NDC analysis and reporting in relation to transparency. The RECONNECT project is implemented by a consortium of European partners. At PBL, the RECONNECT project is closely linked to several other projects aimed at connecting national climate policy with international cooperation.
As our new junior project manager and analysts, you will contribute to the RECONNECT project by analysing national greenhouse gas projections of different countries and organise workshops. You will also provide presentations at these workshops and contribute to capacity-building activities related to model-based scenario development, development of NDCs and ensuring transparency in current activities of different countries. In this role, you will collaborate with the PBL team as well as with researchers from other organisations involved in the project. You will also work closely with analysts from various selected countries around the world and help them to fulfil their activities as part of international climate policy (capacity building).
You will be part of the IMAGE team, a dynamic group of approximately 25 individuals working on specific topics related to climate change and other environmental concerns. The team is a mix of junior and senior researchers and is situated within the Department of Global Sustainability. Our department includes researchers dedicated to bridging the gap between science and policy at the European and global levels. The department is an integral part of PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, headquartered in The Hague, which serves as the Dutch institute for strategic policy analysis in the fields of environment, nature, and spatial planning.
