IKEA Kreativ, launched in 2022, is expanding to provide best-in-class tools for customers and co-workers to visualize their home design ideas with helpful and joyful 3D experiences.We are looking for highly motivated, creative graphics engineers with entrepreneurial drive, who are excited about building novel technologies and getting them into the hands of millions if not billions of IKEA consumers!
We have an opening for a seasoned and passionate Senior 3D/XR 3D Graphics Engineer to join our amazing new Home Imagination Platform (HIP) Team at IKEA, located in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This team will collaborate directly with the R&D team at Geomagical Labs (an IKEA company based in the USA), and be part of influential and cutting-edge 3D and AI technology development on a global, multi-million user scale.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Delight consumers with 3D graphics experiences in our influential IKEA Kreativ app on the web and mobile - that are visually compelling & high-performance.
- Engineer our Three.js and C++/Vulkan-based 3D graphics engines for use in 3D applications for indoor room decoration, on mobile, web, tablet, kiosk, and immersive displays.
- Collaborate with senior engineers, AI scientists, product managers and designers to firmly establish architectural directions and requirements.
- Design and implement robust graphics components, including 3D interaction, rendering, scene management, geometry, animation, and physics systems.
- Apply methodical approaches to solve complex problems using 3D algorithms and data.
- Create detailed technical documents for the team and key stakeholders.
- Build prototypes to validate new concepts and mitigate risks.
- Help build and nurture a new European startup team, in close partnership with - Geomagical Labs: helping recruit, interview, mentor, and motivate new team members.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 5 years experience in developing 3D graphics applications.
- Strong foundations in Computer Science and software engineering - university degree in Computer Science preferred.
- Strong, hands-on proficiency in both compiled (modern C++) and interpreted (python / JS) languages.
- Expertise in 3D mathematics, geometry, and linear algebra.
- Proficiency in 3D graphics algorithms and data structures - both theory & practice.
- In-depth experience using texture-mapped 3D models, PBR textures, transparency, LODs
- Comprehensive knowledge of modern 3D game/rendering engine architectures.
- Proficiency with low-level rendering APIs (WebGL/WebGPU, Vulkan, DX12, etc.).
BONUS: Experience with WebAssembly (WASM) and compiler toolchains (Emscripten)
BONUS: Shipped Games or other consumer-facing graphics-intensive applications
