The ING Sector Research team is specifically geared towards providing economic research. Co-operation with other parts of ING Wholesale Bank and the Dutch Domestic Bank Netherlands is a key component in finding solutions for our client base. The Global Sector Research team in Amsterdam covers (inter)national sector analysis about specific themes for various sectors such as energy, retail, manufacturing, transport, sustainability and real estate. Role Description:
ING works with global scenarios for the energy transition to assess transition risks and opportunities of the energy transition. The scenarios show that synthetic fuels are important to green hard to abate sectors such as aviation, shipping, trucking and manufacturing (steel and cement making). An intern has put together valuable information on the production process of synthetic fuels, such as hydrogen and methanol. We now want to model the business case of these synthetic fuels to better understand the economics of these fuels. We are looking for a student with knowledge of the production processes of synthetic fuels and the economics of these processes. Think of a chemistry student with knowledge of business economics with a passion for building excel models.
Description of the Work Setting:
Our new colleague needs to have a good understanding of chemical processes both in terms of physics and economics. He or she needs to build simple excel models that capture the most important value drivers of the production of synthetic fuels and how they influence current and future production costs of synthetic fuels. Think of energy, technology, labour, capital costs and running hours of the production process. The intern will join the energy team within ING Global Sector Research. He or she should be an independent working with good co-operation and communication skills.

Qualifications/Experience required:
The work is fast-paced, demanding and intellectually stimulating. We look for candidates with the following qualifications:
Bachelor degree in chemical engineering and with a basic background in business economics
Knowledge on the chemistry of synthetic fuels and the economics of chemical processes
Strong ability to work independently and as a team player
Strong quantitative skills
Strong knowledge of Excel is required
Attention to detail
Affinity with energy markets
Ability to work well under pressure and tight deadlines
Diligence and attitude to continuously learn
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (and knowledge of Dutch is an advantage)
Adaptability and an ability to continually climb a steep learning curve
