With us, you will become part of a fun and close-knit team of motivated colleagues, but at the same time you will be part of a renowned international engineering firm with almost 6,000 employees, with all the benefits that it entails. In this challenging position as a junior economist, you will be part of a team with worldwide fame in the field of maritime economics and market analysis.
What you do as a Junior Economist
You are part of an international project team with people from different disciplines. Together with the customer, you translate their wishes and questions in the field of maritime economics into an adequate approach. As a junior economist, you help our clients make well-considered investment decisions.
You work in different project teams at the same time, regularly combining economic, financial, and technical expertise. The projects are very diverse. For example, it can be a feasibility study for a new port to be built or a market analysis for proposed expansion plans for a particular terminal. We advise clients on roadmaps to make sure their ports are future-proof, taking into consideration future commercial scenarios as well as for example technology and climate change related scenarios. We advise private investors as well as the international financial institutions on potential investments in terminals. We work on projects worldwide. Among others, you are particularly concerned with:
- doing research, preparing the analyses and financial-economic scenarios and models and reflecting on them: which options do you weigh and which decision or strategy do you recommend to your client?
- develop proposals for potential new jobs, in close cooperation with the seniors in the team;
- work on position papers on relevant industry developments
- maintaining close contact with your colleagues so that the activities of the various projects are optimally aligned in terms of time and information
- proactively thinking about continuously improving our services. Royal HaskoningDHV is strongly committed to continuous innovation and this team contributes to this by continuing to develop innovative products and services
Where you will work
You will work within the Economics and Operations Advisory Group (E&O), part of the Water and Maritime Business Line. This is a group of more than 25 experts that primarily focuses on shipping companies, port authorities, transshipment terminal operators, banks, investment funds, and shippers/carriers.
We support our customers by providing insight into the development of their market and assets. We offer our knowledge when they are faced with investment decisions or enter into a transaction to acquire or dispose of an interest in assets in this sector. Our services therefore consist of market studies, commercial due diligence, business cases, social cost-benefit analyses and strategic consultancy, for example in the field of energy transition in ports. Our knowledge and experience are also used for projects in other business lines, such as in the field of industry, mobility, water, and infrastructure. We work from offices in the Netherlands, England (London), Singapore, and Indonesia. Due to the growth of our activities, we would like to strengthen our team in London.
What you bring
You are analytically strong and accurate. You are curious to find out more on new topics and not afraid to work on new subjects. You can switch easily between different projects that are running at the same time. You have strong communication skills to build a good relationship with both customers and colleagues and you can identify opportunities to serve customers even better.
The junior economist position suits you if you:
- have a Master's degree in the field of Economics/Econometrics, Transport Economics, Infrastructure, Logistics or other similar studies;
- have 2-5 years of experience, for example at a terminal operator or port authority, in consultancy or in business;
- have experience with independently setting up financial and/or economic models in MS Excel;
- excellent English communication skills;
Do you have experience with programming? Then we see that as an advantage.
