THE ROLE
Damen Naval in Vlissingen is seeking a visionary Lead Technical Specialist in Extended Reality (XR), encompassing Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Mixed Reality, and Synthetic Reality. As recognized expert in XR, you will bring your knowledge and international reputation to lead and mentor a team of talented developers, subject matter experts, solution architects, and artists. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
Manage and mentor a team of XR professionals, fostering an environment of innovation and excellence.
Oversee the development of interactive, immersive environments and serious games for both internal stakeholders and external clients.
Provide technical direction and support to the team, solving complex problems and implementing best practices for XR training, simulation, data aggregation, and visualization solutions.
Function as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress, addressing concerns, identifying opportunities for R&D, and ensuring alignment with business goals.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
Bachelor or Master degree combined with substantial experience in game engines (Unity, Godot), game design/solution architecture, 3D modelling software (Blender, Maya), and programming languages (C#, Python).
Proven experience in managing software development processes within the XR or gaming context.
Expertise in Agile methodologies (Scrum/DevOps) and experience in managing and mentoring professionals in an innovative knowledge area.
Extensive experience in relevant fields of expertise, ideally within complex naval projects and in collaboration with research institutes, universities, vendors, and subcontractors.
Good command of the Dutch and English language both written and verbal.
Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.
- Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
