What will you do?
The primary focus of a Category Manager is to provide your target market with a product offer that consumer's desire and to service this offer in a manner which maximizes sales and profitability.
You will deliver multi-channel Category Strategies & Plans and successfully implement them in both our sales lines. You will run the negotiations with suppliers for a category or group of categories of products at MediaMarkt, in both, online and offline channels, ensuring winning conditions agreements and the best prices. You will drive the pricing strategy and deliver the target margin. You are curious and are constantly learning about the market, identifying new suppliers and opportunities. You manage promotions and campaigns working closely with Marketing and the Assortment & Display Planners. As part of the whole process, you also supervise the product creation task in our systems including all its attributes.
The role requires a strong commercial mindset with a highly developed comprehension of all the sales, marketing, merchandising and operational levers which can impact the overall P&L of the category. The ability to gain 'buy in' for the Category direction and building relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders is critical to success in the role. Key accountabilities:
- Support the Assortment & Display Planner in the definition of the Category strategy;
- Definition and delivery of Category plans that support agreed corporate financial targets;
- Overseeing the impact of marketing strategies to ensure that pricing and promotional actions are delivered;
- Develop exit strategies for ineffective, discontinued products;
- Increase sales and profit through the development of product assortments which meet consumer needs;
- Develop mutually beneficial relationships with vendors to achieve better pricing and quality of service;
- You will make regular visits to our stores/customers, to ensure the reality matches the plan and to help identify issues and opportunities in the "real world";
- You will conduct regular competitor visits to help you maintain your understanding of developments in both your category and the wider retail/wholesale industry.
- Clear evidence of career progression and proven examples of providing commercial growth to categories within your responsibility,
- Full lifecycle experience of developing a Category strategy, defining category tactics and successfully implementing,
- Mandatory: Fluent in English and Dutch (the language to report work is Dutch),
- Excellent negotiation skills and commercial acumen,
- Excellent analytical and numerical skills,
- Ability to identify and articulate business opportunities (Insight into strategy, SWOT analysis),
