Within the legal department of Royal IHC's head office in the Netherlands we have an opening for a Senior Legal Counsel with extensive knowledge of commercial law and an equal amount of hands-on experience.
As a Senior Legal Counsel you will work closely together with the business and provide high quality legal advice and support throughout the Royal IHC Group in various fields such as shipbuilding, vessel conversions, stand-alone sales of equipment, services and business development. You will also contribute to the further development of the legal department and play an important role in implementing and maintaining the corporate legal framework.
You will be responsible for:
Monitoring and ensuring proper application of and compliance with legal policies and procedures.
Maintaining and improving standard template agreements, including identifying new types of transactions that require a standardized or alternative legal approach.
Providing tangible and hands-on legal advice on strategic commercial initiatives.
Promoting and executing cross-functional and international collaboration.
Proactively supporting and assisting the business with the opportunities ahead among others by shaping the (legal) strategy and improve the identification, assessment, and management of legal risks.
Providing legal support to (senior) management in case of disputes, claim settlements and arbitrations (including liaising with and manage external lawyers).
To be eligible for this role, you must have:
A sound understanding of the commercial side of agreements and be able to develop solid relationships.
Strong analytical skills to quickly grasp the often versatile complexities of projects.
Strong communication skills across all levels of seniority within the business.
A positive attitude, can-do mentality and a flexible, results-orientated approach.
An eye for detail and a high level of accuracy.
A team player approach.
An academic education in (preferably English or Dutch) law.
7 to 10 years of experience in an in-house legal position or at a law firm, both in an international setting.
In depth knowledge of and experience with contract law.
Willingness to travel abroad occasionally.
Fluent in Dutch and English, both spoken and written.
