About the role
The Operational Risk Manager (NZ) is responsible for providing subject matter expertise and 2nd line oversight in the development, implementation, execution and effectiveness of Operational Risk Management and related Frameworks.
This role works across all levels of Rabobank New Zealand to support the broader risk team in building a robust risk aware culture for Rabobank.
Our business partners provide oversight, challenge and insights over operational risk activity conducted in our businesses and help aid them in meeting operational risk requirements. This means that stakeholder management and relationship building skills is key to this role.
Reporting to the Head of Operational Risk NZ, and working out of our modern Hamilton office, a rewarding opportunity has arisen for an experienced Operational Risk manager to provide maternity cover under a fixed term contract and take responsibility for:
- Performing oversight, challenge and advice over the identification and assessment of operational risks and controls, risk and control indicators, findings & actions, as well as incidents within the 1st Line. This may be in the context of specific Divisions/Support Functions or specific Operational Risk Frameworks.
- Ensure that business practices are in line with expectations and that the balance between business specific needs and risk level consistency is met.
- Help the business to truly know and understand risks and obligations, through building capability and maturity.
- Be a risk change agent, responsible for identifying and driving change within Risk teams, constructively challenging and disrupting legacy thinking and processes where appropriate
- Actively share learnings and insights broadly across the Risk community to foster a learning culture and uplift capability
- Perform governance, oversight, and advice activities over Operational Risk Management Frameworks across Region Australia, New Zealand.
- You may work under the direction of either the Head of Operational Risk, Australia, or New Zealand, taking into the relevant requirements of each country.
This is a 12-month fixed term position, covering maternity leave.
About you
To thrive in the role, you will need to bring a curious mindset and can-do attitude and hold relevant Operational risk experience ideally gained in the financial services industry.
- 3+ years' experience in Operational risk management within the financial services industry, preferably in a second line risk role.
- Bachelor's Degree or International equivalent preferably in financial, business, economics or other related undergraduate degree.
- Solid understanding of operational Risk Management related regulatory standards (ideally including APRA Prudential Standards such as CPS230)
- A team player who respectfully challenges the status quo, contributes innovative ideas, and maintains a process improvement and simplification mindset.
- Demonstrable ability to build and maintain effective working relationships, lead, and influence decisions across peers, external stakeholders, and senior management.
- A sound knowledge of causes, influences and drivers of operational risk
- A strong commercial acumen
- Proven experience in managing multiple deliverables and conflicting priorities.
- The ability to deal with ambiguity, work autonomously, and operate in an evolving environment across our regional team.
