Job Title: Gallery Assistant
About Galerie Russi Klenner:
Founded in 2016 by Russi Klenner and having steadily grown ever since, the gallery now represents 12 upcoming and established artists of diverse backgrounds. The artists embrace different media such as painting, photography, installation and conceptual art. With six exhibitions a year the gallery’s programme endeavours mostly to present solo shows of its artists, allowing for selected curatorial interventions in between.
It is the aim of the gallery to establish a long-lasting relationship with its artists, to accompany closely each stage of their development and support them not only by fostering close relationships with collectors in Germany and abroad, but also by organising exhibitions in museums and other cultural institutions to enhance their artistic profile. Works of the artists can be found in several private collections as well as national and international public collections and have been exhibited in museums and institutions in Germany and abroad. Another focus of the gallery is the regular publication of artists’ monographs with renowned publishing houses such as Hatje Cantz, Gestalten or Distanz.
Principle duties and responsibilities of the gallery assistant:
- Supporting with the organisation of exhibitions, art fairs and the smooth running of events
- Creating sales and exhibition PDFs
- Maintaining the gallery’s social media presence
- Liaising with artists for exhibition and project updates
- Keeping the gallery website and database up-to-date at all times
- Being a warm and well-informed presence at the gallery for visitors and clients
- Sending press mails and responding to press requests
- Cataloguing of Artworks, exhibitions, and press coverage
- Maintaining mailing lists
- Keeping the office and gallery presentable and maintaining supplies
Requirements:
- Keen interest and knowledge of the gallery program and contemporary art
- Very strong IT abilities including the use of InDesign and Photoshop
- Fluent spoken and written English, at least level B2 German
- Adaptable to changing demands and deadlines
- Excellent time management and communication skills
Desirable:
- Previous experience working at a gallery or other art-related environment
- Video editing skills
- Previous experience using ArtButler
- Knowledge of the technical aspects of installing and deinstalling of exhibitions and packing of artworks
- Drivers licence
