As Medical Director for Germany, you will lead a team of highly talented team medical affairs colleagues that have both scientific and clinical expertise in Germany and Southern Europe (Italy and Spain).
You will lead the team to successfully execute all critical medical affairs functions, which include developing and executing the strategic medical plans for the region, managing key thought-leader relationships, publishing data from sponsored trials, disseminating/presenting educational information on the portfolio, answering questions from healthcare clinicians and disease experts regarding product safety or efficacy that is not addressed in a product’s label and supporting research initiatives outside labelled indications for marketed products.
You will collaborate with the International Regions Medical Head in developing medical strategy and ensuring consistency of approach and deliverables for Medical Affairs activities in the region.
You will ensure that Seqirus vaccine portfolio medical plans are successfully developed and executed to achieve short-and long-term objectives and support Seqirus.
You will partner with commercial heads and ensures alignment on key strategies, deliverables & communication.
You will serve as Influenza and other vaccines champion/expert, effectively negotiating with & influencing key internal & external stakeholders. Develop and lead a committed and innovative Central and Southern Europe Medical Affairs Team with the following objectives:
- Provide quality and strategic medical input to achieve successful medical objectives for Seqirus’ vaccines in Central and Southern Europe
- Engage with external experts, research partners, public health, and government stakeholders to promulgate Seqirus scientific platform and enhance company reputation.
- Provide medical governance into decision-making and issue management and external communications.
- Ensure local pharmacovigilance compliance.
In this exciting role will report to the Head of Medical, International Region and will you will provide medical leadership for Seqirus Vaccine Portfolio. There will also be the opportunity to collaborate and partner for the delivery of Medical Affairs strategy in Austria and Switzerland.
Principal focus is Germany based in Munich with line management of team in Italy and Spain
Role and Responsibilities
External Network Development & Management
- Leads the team that identify key opinion leaders in infectious disease and cultivate a network of influenza experts within a given geography/nationally for key areas of scope; vaccinology and antiviral therapies. Create an environment which serves to establish the Medical team as the conduit for credible, accurate and updated scientific and medical information between KOLs, other investigators and Seqirus’ internal functions
- Maintain excellent professional relationships with medical and public health experts, government officials, immunisation advisory committees such as STIKO, partner companies. Accountable for engaging and cultivating relationships with leading KOLs to gain contribution/ participation in advisory boards, greater understanding of influenza vaccines and insights into unmet patient needs.
- Represents Seqirus at scientific and medical forums, including medical education forums, scientific roundtables, congresses, and symposia.
- Planning, designing and managing or participating in local, regional, national and global medical Advisory Boards including working with vendor(s) in support of medical affairs strategies.
Strategy & Scientific Expertise
- Develop and Designs the Central and Southern Europe medical strategic plans for Vaccines and works closely with the Head of Medical, International Regions to ensure the implementation of the Med. Affairs strategy plan.
- Provides medical leadership for scientific communications, including core scientific statements, standard responses, Phase IV plans, medical symposia, medical education activities and publications.
- Provide medical input and advice into development of commercial campaigns, where applicable and ensure that timely support and accuracy for Medical Copy Clearance is accomplished for all Seqirus’ vaccines, in Central and Southern Europe
- Scientific Oversight of Phase 4 studies: work with external experts and cross functional team to ensure Phase 4 studies for the region are completed to agreed timelines and budget.
- Serve as authoritative source of clinical expertise on Seqirus vaccines including primary responsibility for interaction with regulatory agencies for clinical product maintenance activities.
People Management
- Manage and develop field and office based medical team within the vaccines therapeutic area and/or geography including hiring, training, evaluation and motivation, in alignment with Seqirus’ corporate values, medical strategies and objectives.
- Provide strong leadership to motivate the team and achieve outstanding results that align with department goals.
- As a member of the EMEA Medical Affairs leadership team, work together to ensure consistency and compliance in medical decision-making and systems and processes for Seqirus
- Implement and oversee compliant medical processes sign off of promotional materials and management of Investigator initiated clinical studies for Central and Southern Europe
- Develop, monitor and accountable for the German Medical Affairs budget
Background Education and Experience
- Advanced medical degree with relevant or related experience preferably in public health, primary care, vaccinology, infectious disease epidemiology, and medical affairs.
- At least 10 years of experience in medical affairs or healthcare with a strong focus in Germany
- Ability to interact with KOLs and Government officials and bodies such as STIKO dealing with immunization programs/vaccine policy and vaccine recommendations at the highest levels.
- Demonstrated experience in leading a matrixed team.
- Demonstrated ability to lead across diverse cultures and geographies.
- Significant cross-functional leadership/management experience. Demonstrated excellence in leadership behavior.
- Knowledge of immunization programs and an established network of KOLs within the vaccine field and relationships with established academic institutions
- Knowledge of the commercial and environmental issues that drive development vaccine projects.
- Fluent in German and English
